Owen Hargreaves says Arsenal building ‘one of the best projects in football’ with ‘diamond signing’

Not even Manchester City or Liverpool fans can argue that Arsenal have been the best team in the Premier League this season.

Consistently they have played the best football, attacking wise they have scored the most goals (85) and they have the best defence (28).

Added to that, Arsenal’s fixtures against both of their title challengers read as eight points in total across those matches.

All of this could come back to help Arsenal win the Premier League title because it could yet come down to goal difference.

Mikel Arteta has been in the job for five years now and the team has never been closer to becoming champions of England.

According to Owen Hargreaves, it’s ‘one of the best projects in football’, as he told Premier League Productions (29/04/24 at 2:25 pm).

What also needs to be highlighted is that this is a young squad, from back to front, so the best is yet to come.

One of the main reasons why they have progressed so well is because of the transfer business conducted by Edu Gaspar.

Kai Havertz was a big-money transfer in the summer. He caused a stir because many couldn’t understand why he was purchased.

Yet, fast forward to the present and Hargreaves thinks he has been an ‘absolute diamond of a signing’.

Arsenal project and Kai Havertz

“I think they are building one of the best projects in the world of football and they are ahead of schedule, big time,” said Hargreaves.

“This summer, the recruitment is going to be massive. Everyone criticised the Kai Havertz signing in the summer. He has been an absolute diamond of a signing – if you were a coach and you had someone like that at your disposal, you would play them all the time. I think he is that talented and he can play in so many different positions. He gets misinterpreted because of his body language. He has that Ozil vibe about him sometimes. He is 6.2. He has great technique. He can play in four different positions and every coach that has him, everyone plays him. I think this kid is so talented.

“They are going to get in some brilliant players in this summer and I think they are going to push. If Pep leaves Manchester City eventually, they are going to be the ones Arsenal because they are building this fantastic young team. They just need a bigger squad. A striker and a bit more depth. But they are right there.”

Will Tottenham do Arsenal a favour?

Spurs had the chance to dent Arsenal’s title hopes on Sunday, but instead, they were 3-0 down inside 45 minutes.

That north London derby defeat has now opened a road these Tottenham fans never wanted to go down.

With Manchester City set to play Ange Postecoglou’s side in the London club’s final home game of the season, if Spurs win that, then they probably hand the title to Arsenal.

It’s the worst possible nightmare for those at Hotspur Way because it looks like Arsenal will win their remaining three matches, they just now need a favour from someone and their neighbours might just be the ones to do it.
