Huge boost for Leeds as player edges closer to first-team football and debut

Izzy Brown is set to feature for the under 23’s today as he edges closer to first-team football. The Chelsea loan man is returning from a serious injury and suffered a set-back late last year which has delayed his debut in the first-team.

Brown returning to first-team football will be a huge boost to Leeds United when it comes around, Leeds lacking numbers all over the park, especially in that area. Pablo Hernandez is currently the only central attacking midfielder and is preferred out wide by Marcelo Bielsa. The departure of Samu Saiz was a huge blow for Leeds and on Friday night it was touch and go whether or not Pablo Hernandez would be fit. Tyler Roberts was to play in that role if he wasn’t available, showing how much of a lack of depth there is in that position.

Brown can play on either flank but more natural through the middle playing in behind a striker. The thought of Brown playing in behind Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez and Jack Clarke either side is a mouth-watering prospect but it will still be some time before he starts a league game. Marcelo Bielsa expects Brown to be back by mid-February and it will be such a timely return as we head into the final stages of the gruelling Championship season.

A player very highly rated in the Football League and by Chelsea he stepped up to play Premier League football with Brighton before picking up a horrible injury. Leeds United have shown great patience and faith in the ability of Izzy Brown and that can only serve the club well. The idea that Brown may stay next season, whether that be in the Championship or the Premier League is certainly made stronger when you consider the time the club have given him, and help in his rehabilitation.
