Darren Bent says he wouldn’t swap PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe for Arsenal midfielder

A player of Kylian Mbappe’s stature would be a dream signing for every team, even Arsenal.

The PSG superstar is one of the best players in the world, if not, the best on the planet with only very few close to him.

Arsenal might be one of the biggest clubs in England, but even they would struggle to lure the 25-year-old to the Emirates if they had the money.

It has been well-documented that Kylian Mbappe, whose PSG side got knocked out of the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night, will secure a move to Real Madrid in the summer.

If this expected transfer goes through, then it shouldn’t and won’t surprise anyone because it has been years in the making.

But what if Arsenal had the chance to swap some of their players for a man who scored a hat-trick in the Qatar World Cup final in 2022?

That question was put forward to Arsenal-mad Darren Bent and he shocked his co-host, Andy Goldstein, with his response.

The former striker made it clear that he would ‘absolutely not’ swap Mbappe for Declan Rice if he had the chance, as he told talkSPORT.

The England midfielder has been key to Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge this season and he is someone who clearly means a lot to Bent.

Declan Rice for Kylian Mbappe…

“What would you give up for him,” asked Goldstein. “Would you give up Kai Havertz and Declan Rice?” Bent responded by saying a frank ‘no’.

And Goldstein then added: “Would you not? Would you give up Declan?”

“No, absolutely not,” responded Bent again. A shocked Goldstein then asked: “What?! You wouldn’t give up Declan Rice for Kylian Mbappe?!”

Kylian Mbappe in the Premier League

Given that England’s top tier is considered the best league in the world, then it would be amazing to have a player of Mbappe’s calibre on these shores.

The issue is. Who can afford him? The two that stand out are Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Treble-winners are the obvious answer because of their success and the wad of cash they could throw at him.

Whilst Chelsea have the money, just like Saudi-owned Newcastle United, you have to wonder why he would go there if given the opportunity.

That’s probably why English football, like the Brazilian Ronaldo and French legend Zinedine Zidane did during their careers, among others, might just never play in the Premier League.
