Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid predictions

Crunch time is upon us in the Champions League. There are only four teams still standing and the countdown to the final on June 1 is well and truly on.

The consensus is that the winner of this tie will be the favourites for that showpiece match at Wembley Stadium in just over four weeks’ time.

Bayern Munich have endured a disappointing season domestically. They relinquished their Bundesliga crown earlier this month, as Bayer Leverkusen secured the title remarkably early.

On top of that, Bayern’s DFB-Pokal ambitions came to an extremely premature end after a shock 2-1 defeat by third-tier Saarbrucken in the second round.

Those shortcomings in Germany cost Thomas Tuchel his job: Bayern announced in February that they will be under new management before the start of next season.

Or will they? Reports in recent days suggest a u-turn is not out of the question. Some Bayern fans have even started a petition calling for the club to change its mind.

The number of signatures will only increase if Tuchel can lead Bayern to Champions League glory. The German won this tournament with Chelsea in 2021, having reached the final with Paris Saint-Germain the previous year. Tuchel undoubtedly has pedigree in this tournament.

Not to the extent of Carlo Ancelotti, though. The legendary Real Madrid boss is seeking a record-extending fifth triumph as a manager.

Madrid showed two different sides to their game against Manchester City in the quarter-finals. Their attacking quality was on display in a 3-3 draw in the first leg, before Madrid demonstrated their defensive resilience in the return game, drawing 1-1 at the Eithad Stadium before winning on penalties.

Bayern also upset the odds by knocking out a Premier League side in the last eight, beating Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate. These two heavyweights will now go head-to-head for a place in the final.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid betting tips

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will both be looking to establish a first-leg lead on Tuesday night.

Draw - 5/2 (Betfred)

Because of Real Madrid’s formidable record at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Bayern Munich cannot afford to lose the first leg in front of their own supporters.

Bayern have thrived at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League this term, winning four and drawing one of their five matches there so far.

Although Tuchel’s side have been undone by inconsistency in the Bundesliga, they tend to raise their game for the big occasion. That bodes well ahead of Madrid’s visit this week.

Yet there is just something about the Blancos in this competition. They will certainly not be fazed by the atmosphere at the Allianz.

Madrid have been very difficult to beat this term. Manchester City could not manage it in either leg of their quarter-final. A second-string side edged out a 1-0 away victory over Real Sociedad on Friday.

Madrid have lost just one game in 90 minutes all season - and that was way back in September. We like their chances of avoiding defeat in the first leg.

Bayern Munich to score first - 9/10 (Betfred)

Real Madrid will be without the suspended Dani Carvajal, but they have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to Bavaria.

Bayern were without numerous first-team players for their clash with Eintracht Frankfurt last time out. Even worse, Konrad Laimer and Matthijs de Ligt were forced off during that match.

Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry are expected to be included in the XI, though, so Bayern will have enough quality to cause Madrid problems.

With the home crowd behind them, Tuchel will encourage his team to make a fast start. In the Bundesliga, Bayern have scored more goals in the first half than the second, both at home and overall.

Real Madrid are unlikely to come flying out of the traps. They will instead focus on trying to control Bayern early on.

The onus is on the hosts to take the initiative and that could result in them breaking the deadlock.

Choose Bayern Munich to score first at 9/10 with Betfred

Harry Kane to score any time - 6/5 (Betfred)

Bayern Munich have fallen short of expectations in 2023/24, but Harry Kane has exceeded his.

Many felt the England captain would require a bedding-in period following his switch from Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

Not quite. Kane has scored a remarkable 35 goals in the Bundesliga and may yet break Robert Lewandowski’s seasonal record of 41.

He has notched another seven in the Champions League (only Kylian Mbappe has more) and will be Bayern’s chief threat against Real Madrid.

Kane heads into this game in fine form after sticking two goals past Eintracht Frankfurt in a 2-1 triumph at the weekend.

If Madrid can keep Kane quiet, they have a decent chance of picking up a positive result. But as numerous Bundesliga defences have learned this season, doing so is easier said than done.

Tip Harry Kane to score any time at 6/5 with Betfred
