The Dutchman was a manager in high demand last year, turning down Tottenham last summer, and the media spotlight was on him.

It led to an interview with Dutch outlet Voetbal International where he was asked who were his favourite Premier League teams, with Liverpool not in his top three.

"There is no team in the world I would rather watch than Manchester City, followed by Napoli, Arsenal and Brighton," he explained in August 2023, as quoted by the Daily Star.

"But City - and again it is not my intention to compare us with them - have a similar style of play to how we want to play with Feyenoord: 4-3-3, building up from the back, wanting to apply pressure quickly."

With Slot arriving at Liverpool in the summer, he might want to start watching a few games to get to grips with the job.

And fans might be happy to hear that City boss Pep Guardiola is one of Slot's inspirations.

"I certainly don't want to compare myself to Pep, but he is a control freak just like me," he added.

"If I look at myself, I try to win a match in the week before it is played, by conveying the training, pre-match team talks and tactics to the players as perfectly as possible."

talkSPORT understands Liverpool have agreed a compensation package with Feyenoord worth in excess of £9.4million (€11m).

It came days after he admitted he was desperate to take over at Anfield following Feyenoord's victory over Go Ahead Eagles last week.

Gabby Agbonlahor questions if Jurgen Klopp is a 'legendary' manger if he only wins one Premier League title

"It seems clear to me that I would like to work there," the 45-year-old said.

“All I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations. I’m in the waiting room."

Liverpool had conducted a data-led approach in their search to find a replacement for Klopp.

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim had been one name linked with the Reds before Slot became the preferred candidate.
