Mauricio Pochettino has been told he has the 'hardest job in world' football at Chelsea before their clash with Aston Villa.

Chelsea have had a miserable season with the Blues struggling to make it into a European spot despite fighting back to draw against Aston Villa on Saturday night.

Marc Cucurella scored an own goal after four minutes before Morgan Rogers doubled the lead before half-time but Chelsea clawed it back.

Noni Madueke scored soon after the break before Conor Gallagher delivered a delightful finish into the corner from just outside the box to make it 2-2.

But before a ball was kicked at Villa Park, former Chelsea star Joe Cole sympathised with the Argentine coach on TNT Sports.

"Is he blameless? Like Chelsea, are not where they want to be," Cole said, who made 282 appearances for the Blues over seven years.

"That's a fact, you know, not where they should be.

"With the money that they've spent and the players that have come in and out the door, I think Mauricio is doing a fantastic job.

"I think he's got the hardest job in world football, because I think it's clear that it's not in complete control of ins and outs coming in. That's for sure.

"Expectations are massive and rightly so, because that's what they used to the last 20 years, Chelsea had been as good as any club in Europe, barring probably Real Madrid, in terms of winning trophies that are competing in this league.

"So they just need to stick with him and move forward. Changing managers, I promise you, is not the right way to go."

Chelsea's draw leaves them ninth in the Premier League and is a third match in a row without a win after crashing out of the FA Cup to Manchester City and a record-drubbing at the hands of Arsenal.

The Blues still have five games left but confidence seems to have hit rock bottom in recent days.

Injuries have also been cruel to Pochettino, who had 12 first-team players missing on Saturday.

Nevertheless, the former Tottenham coach could come under pressure in the summer while he has one year left on his contract.

Chelsea have already had five managers since Clearlake Capital took over in the summer of 2022, having sacked Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter with Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard taking charge of games, too.

The new owners have invested heavily in youth but it has not worked yet with this season already seeing the Blues concede a record-high amount of goals in the Premier League with 59.
